Rainbow Trout

Import this fish directly into your project. Learn about feed conversion ratios, oxygen and protien requirements, and visualize how your water quality is effecting the fish.

Rainbow trout grows fast, tolerant to crowding, low in fat, highly nutritious and tastes good. It is also noteworthy to say that they are the toughest type of trout and easiest to grow. Their growth is rapid, so you can maximize production by increasing the number of crops. Also, they readily feed on formulated diets and have high tolerance to salinity fluctuations. Good water quality must be maintained in order to support optimum growth for this fish as they are sensitive to dirty water.

Rainbow trout require well oxygenated cold freshwater such as those coming from mountain streams. Dissolved oxygen level must not fall below 5.0 ppm therefore, during summer time, air stones or paddle wheels may be needed as the temperature rises since DO is proportional to temperature. They grow best in well aerated, 15℃ freshwaters with pH level at 6.7 to 8.2.

Rainbow trout are carnivorous fish, generally they feed on aquatic and terrestrial insects, snails and small fishes. If given a formulated diet, it should contain 40-50% protein and be fed twice a day (one in the morning and another one in the afternoon). Moreover, water quality must be maintained all throughout the rearing period and it is best to have a pump ready.

They can be harvested through nets (seine) in case of mass culture.
