Tobamovirus

Summary

Tobamovirus is a genus of viruses including the commonly known Tobacco Mosaic Virus. Tobamoviruses are not spread by smoke,contrary to popular belief, but rather by mechanical transmission or direct contact. It is most easily transmitted via human handling of a previously infected crop or tobacco product.

Symptoms

Symtoms may or may not be present depending on the plant and environmental conditions of the infected plant. However, some of the most common symptoms are stunting, yellowing on the leaves or veins,malformation of the leaves, or mosaic-like patterns forming on leaves.

Chemical Control

No chemicals cure virally infected plants.

Preventive Measures

Limit handling of crops by any guests visiting your farm as much as possible. Wash hands before handling crops. Do not allow any tobacco products into the greenhouse.
